You’ve run the full gamut of emotions here, First Dog.
I can’t wait for Masterchef to conclude to spare the populace being subjected to it for a while – sure, 2 million people may watch but that tells us that 20 million don’t. Even if 4 million watch the grand final, 18 million won’t. Please feel at liberty to check those calculations, they are complicated and it’s still early…
It’s the same with Rugby League State of Origin, oh how I look forward to that third and final game.

Zut,
Plan ahead. Pre-record something worthwhile to watch during the State of Origin, invite a few friends around for dinner – preferably outside, out of range of all electronic entertainment devices.
Then the annual thug-a-thon will be worth looking forward to. Start planning your guest list for 2011 and menu now.

John B,
I wish it were so easy. The actual nights of the thugathons aren’t the problem, it’s the unrelenting and agonising build-up. In Brisbane it’s not unusual for State of Origin to dominate the TV/radio news for days beforehand. The loathsome Courier-Mail is awash with State of Origin – needless to say I haven’t read it for years but can’t avoid their news hoardings giving breathless updates on Queensland’s lineup.
Mercifully, we now have ABC News 24 so there may be more opportunity to duck and weave around the avalanche of footy dreck.
Many thanks for the word ‘thugathon’.

Thanks, I’ve committed it to my lexicon.
