As we go to press, Sky News is discussing whether Day 1 of the Really Real Julia Gillard is any different to Days 1-15 of Not Very Real, Not Fake, but Sort of Watered Down and Possibly on Prozac Prime Minister.
Pardon?
Don’t blame Sky for the inanity of that concept. She started it:
“It’s time for me to make sure the real Julia is well and truly on display, so I’m going to step up and take personal charge of what we do in the campaign from this point. I’m not Doris Day, I’m not naive about this. But I will be taking more direct control of the campaign from here.”
To employ an equally ridiculous quote from a pretty ridiculous political figure, Gillard will now be the ‘decider’.
There’s been a lot of talk over the weekend about just who’s responsible for the vapidity of this campaign. Today in the first of a two-parter, Bernard Keane says it’s your fault.
Yep, you. Voters. In short: you asked for it.
You get what you give, and as participants in this business of modern politics, that’s not much.
We’ve outsourced politics. We’ve hired democracy consultants. And so, here we are, stuck with Campaign Lite. Not to get all Get Up on you or anything, but only you have the ability to change the course of this election. It’s a cliche for a reason: it’s true.

I was astounded that Julia made that public announcement she was going to be herself, no more listening to HQ. What the hell was she thinking? Just get out and do it, no need to say so. So now she has to try very hard to be different or look stupid. I’m beginning to have my doubts about the entire organisation of this Labor campaign. It is like they are plucking ideas off a white board. Let’s try this one today, if it doesn’t work, try another.
Very disappointing and more ammunition for the Libs as if they need it. I haven’t lost faith but it is becoming increasingly difficult.
Seems they are taking their cues from NSW Labor where it’s a case of try this Premier today, and another one tomorrow.
Yes Gillard has admitted she is a puppet to the factions and its an issue with the polls, so she attempts to cut the strings.
What an admission….
And who is remaking Tony Abbott then? Brian Loughnane and his inane ads about the so-called $8 billion waste on schools, 240,000 homes in danger of burning to the ground and so on.
And Abbott has just announced his launch one week earlier than the ALP and he still has no policy beside pandering to the rich, kicking the poor and beating up on refugees.
They really need Abbott and the Libs to stuff up big time to resurrect their campaign. So far Abbot’s had a dream run as attention is fixated upon Rudd rather than policies and issues. I thought these leaks and their relevance would dry up, but there seems to be so many players and opinions about the leaks, Rudd’s speculative part in them and the nature of his character, that Julia Gillard has been swamped under the deluge. Now we are not sure who the real Julia is? Unbelievable!
