Quote of the day:
“We can’t have great schools and decent healthcare without a strong economy, so I’d be happy to debate Mr Abbott on the economy… Game on.” — Prime Minister Julia Gillard accepts a request on Today Tonight for another debate.
Tony Abbott has since declined, saying the PM had her chance and that this is just another example of her “flip flopping”.
I would agree with Abbott on this – the debates we have had in recent campaigns, and in particular, this campaign end up being reduced to farce with the use of “the worm” by commercial television. Much of Australia appears to be obsessed by the worm, using it to proclaim success or failure of the participants. It is commercial TV that has offered the time to a PM under pressure. I say forget it. A debate on ABC’s Q and A……..now that I would advise Abbott to accept.
Caller to talk back radio on ABC Perth….there is no purpose having a debate because the PM is an aetheist and the country is being taken over by Muslims. So speaks a devout Liberal voter.
FFS, can’t we, just for once, have a discussion about Abbott, Gillard and Santa Clause without religion coming into it. My take is that neither is to be trusted any more or less because of their stated belief systems.
