The result itself was not the only close run thing about last month’s Federal election.
We had to go to the tie-breaker question to determine the winner of the Crikey Election Tipping contest and that meant waiting until the Australian Electoral Commission determined the final two party preferred votes. Hence the month’s delay in announcing our winners.
It has been an anxious time for our winner, Peter Forrest, who was one of those who picked the winner in 19 of the 20 marginal electorates. His only regret, he told us this morning, was not getting the lot right.
“I can’t believe I didn’t get Robertson!” he said. “Want to know how I did it? I waited until the last day…”
Then he used the 2007 figures and applied the same swing.
And what will he do with his $5000 winnings? Pay bills or go on a holiday?
“All of the above.”

Without making assumptions about Pag’s gender, it seems like the blokes are quite good at this tipping thing?! Gosh we girls are apathetic. Or noncompetitive. Or crap at tipping. (Me – any tipping reminds me of football which puts me right off).
Exactly my thoughts Lolo. Why all the men? Or do we have more important things to do with our time? But well done to all the winners, particularly Peter Forrest.
I hope Akim is a girl. But yes, the blokes seem to have this market cornered.
I’m sure there’s a thesis in it somewhere….”Tipping gender split within the Australian political paradigm” – ARC grant? Anyone?
That had better not be Peter Forrest well known Territory historian if so i demand a recount and an independent speaker.
