Okay, okay…this is most likely not in any kinda taste at all but I can’t help myself. I spent a large part of the past two weeks at the ‘hill station’ town of Ubud in Bali. I was there to attend the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival and had a great time.
You can see my posts from that great gabfest here, here, here and here.
I spent a few days hanging around in Ubud after the festival and came down to Denpasar early last Friday with a plan to catch up with my new friend Hector from the Bali Times. Between my own slackness, inability to find a local phone-card around the airport and the temptations of a few Bintangs I ended up hanging around the rather ordinary – no, very ordinary – Ngurah Rai International Airport on the outskirts of Denpasar waiting for my Jetstar flight back to Darwin.
As you do when you’ve had a few beers you eventually need to use the sanitary facilities provided…
So I got a very pleasant surprise when I walked into the ground-floor facilities to see that the have fish in the bogs.
No, not, as my mate here in Alice Springs said when I told him, not in the bowls, but in little fish-tanks above the urinals. I don’t know what they have in the Women’s rest-rooms but the Men’s on both levels had these very pleasant distractions while you were doing your business. And I particularly like the Hibiscus flowers above each urinal.
Better than looking at ads for condoms and Elliot Goblet promotions while you are having a slash…
