I know it’s shallow, but I could listen to the Irish read the phone book and it would be brain music of the very best kind. 🙂
And yes, Mr Rabbitte, he ought to be ashamed. 🙂 See, there IS a Mr Rabbitte!
isn’t it refreshing to watch a bit of plain political speaking; rather than the pap served up to us most days.
Hardly plain political speaking; more like opportunistic finger wagging. If the opposition knew things were as bad as they were, if they were really concerned they would have been saying this very same thing for some time. That would have made this bit of video unremarkable. As it is just more democracy by performance art.
They should have spotted the asset bubble and debt pit forming years ago. Australia’s housing bubble will be next, one way or another…
Sean, even a blind man can spot the Australian asset bubble from outer space. It is, as in Ireland, a direct consequence of short term, opportunistic political policies being put in place by lazy politicians to serve the desires of those who have, but who want more.
In both cases, there lies at the root of the problem – and it is a problem – the failure to tax income derived from property speculation and from home ownership in the same way that other income streams are (or at least, should be) taxed. This hugely distorted tax system will not be rectified by the voluntary actions of those who feed at the trough – politicians and asset rich electors, no matter how much damage is done to the nation and to those who are not also at the same trough.
So, Sean, your comment is both true and an indication of travail to come.
