This morning I saw this post at US sports blog Hoopism and completely fell in love with the concept.
Using the Wordle software to configure a design based on each NBA team and the minutes every player from each team played created this beautiful mosaic that magically demonstrated the rich tapestry and history of each NBA basketball team.
So I thought: what could I do similarly? And could this work? Well it does work, and from now, every week until I run out of ideas, I will come up with another Wordle for sport.
To kick it off Ive decided to borrow from the Hoopism theme and make a wordle of each AFL club to include every player who has played 50 or more games.
As you can see the imagery is brilliant. Particularly when you compare recent AFL clubs Fremantle and Port Adelaide to, for instance, original clubs Melbourne and Geelong, you get a particular sense of history.
The bigger the name, the more games they have played.
It’s almost enchanting…
