That is the problem with France saying its decision is based on an argument that is only half true. The people of France are entitled to self-determination, and they should be able to determine for themselves what customs and traditions are welcome in their country. But they should at least be honest about it.
When i can wear my helmet in a bank or other shops , then you can wear the vale. Rules are rules , for everybody.
What rules are the French proposing Barry? Apparently you would be prevented from wearing your helmet everywhere except in your house. Now you might think that’s OK as you could be accident prone and wearing a helmet in your own home might be a good thing. However I for one wouldn’t like to be told that I can’t wear a helmet as activities such as riding a motorcycle are inherently risky and donning some form of head protection is prudent. I find it hard to understand why you would support a law that puts motorcycle riders in peril.
I am trying to imagine if people decided to walk NUDE in Paris would they be sent to a mental home ??
At the least they would be fined.
Wear this remnant of 12th century monadic desert nomads is as bad. With one you see everything with the other you see nothing. Both are distasteful.
This French woman has to obey the laws of France in every other way, whether she likes it or not…. so sorry, she will have to obey this one too…. HOWEVER SHE COULD GO AND LIVE IN SAUDI ARABIA.. if she feels so terribly strongly about it.
There’s a bloke on SBS who does gardening segments – his own show! He has long hair, a longish beard, and if he wore glasses, most of his face would remain unseen – just like a woman wearing a burqa. I’m assuming, that the issue is with her face, not the length of her dress/cape etc?
The argument people run about security etc is rubbish. During the Pope’s visit during World Youth Week, there were many male clergy wearing long ‘dresses’? They could’ve had an AK47 underneath them? What was to stop a ‘terrorist’ dressing in a similar manner? It’s just a nonsense! What about the garb nuns wore for decades? What’s stopping me sewing an outfit/habit and using that disguise to commit some crime?
This is purely a racist/sexist law that is anti-Muslim – and sexist as it assumes, that a woman wearing a burqa(or its equivalent) can’t possibly be capable of making her own decisions – some man must be enforcing his extreme views on her!
If this Law is supposed to ensure that women are treated equally, I could think of many areas where they could start – non-sexist advertising; stopping the sexualisation of children(in the West – I’m sure France is no different) discrimination in the workforce, particularly equal pay; and the elimination of violence against women and girls – everywhere!
