Nominations for SNoG Executive close this Thurday 3 March with voting from next Monday 7 – Friday 11 March.

Through an agreement of reciprocal voting with DIISR, FaHCSIA, ANAO and DMO (other departments potentially to come), I think I’ve managed to reserve the President position for one of us, in exchange for us voting various people of other departments to lesser positions (where they belong!). Hopefully this coalition should be enough to get us over the line.

I think it would be useful if one us held the position (and have no interest in running myself). Is anyone interested? If so, let the group know before Thursday’s Grad Meeting. It’s on the agenda then, so we can finalise our nomination and submit the form that afternoon.

Of course, you are welcome to run for any SNoG Executive position by yourself.

The slow, deliberate Sydney water sell-off. If NSW opposition leader Barry O’Farrell and premier Kristina Keneally say they won’t privatise Sydney Water, perhaps someone should ask why there are continuing reports from inside Sydney Water that a stack of assets are to be sold to Veolia Water, which is French-owned. Veolia Water already has the huge unwanted desalination plant at Kurnell in Sydney, the Woronora Water Treatment Plant, commissioned in 1996, and the Illawarra Water Treatment Plant, which supplies about 500,000 people in the region. Veolia has so many different contracts (storm water, recycled water, the water mains program and smaller contracts) that it is a shadow version of Sydney Water and could simply absorb it overnight.

Hate the carbon tax? Pay for a bus. Following up your story yesterday revealing that anti-carbon tax protester Jacques Laxale is a disgruntled Green Loans and Home Insulation Program assessor. How credible is this guy when his “Consumers and Taxpayers Association” was only registered yesterday on the ASIC website? Jacques is also asking people to put money into his personal bank account for the bus to Canberra for the People’s Revolt on March 23…
