Mary Kirby’s always entertaining Runway Girl blog at Flight International has just ruined my day. She has a breaking news scoop on tests that have shown new cabin wi-fi or wireless broadband products for airlines including V Australia have suspended installations because of adverse impacts on cockpit displays during tests for electro-magnetic interference.

All of the harrowing details are here. However the good news, even though installations have been put on hold , is that the effects apparently don’t occur during ‘normal’ in flight use, whatever that is.

But they are serious enough for the various players in the business of fitting internet connectivity to jet cabins to stop installing and start modifying their product to overcome a problem that will prevent their certification for use, at least for a while.
