The Winners: Nine finished ahead in All People share. Ten says it won All People and 25 to 54s thanks to MasterChef and The Good Wife. Seven won 16 to 39s and 18 to 49.

  1. MasterChef Australia (Ten) (7.30pm) — 1.507 million
  2. Seven News (6pm)– 1.236 million

The Losers: It wasn’t a night to inspire, MasterChef at least stood out.

The NRL Footy Show: in Sydney, 139,000, 82,000 in Brisbane. And the biggest game of the year is next Wednesday, the first State of Origin between NSW and Qld, and that’s all the program could attract last night? It should be flicked instead of Getaway.

Between The Lines on Nine at 8.30pm, 610,000 down nearly 15% from the debut figure of 696,000 last week. Not Good Enough. A distant third for the Nine program.

News & CA: Seven News won Sydney, lost Melbourne and Brisbane, won Adelaide and Perth. Today Tonight won everywhere bar Brisbane. If Nine in Perth and Adelaide was performing more strongly, Nine News and ACA would be winning nationally on some nights.

Nine News won Melbourne, but there was a big turn off to ACA (which is normally stronger in Melbourne), from 382,000 for the news, to 238,000 for ACA. TT saw a rise in its audience to 352,000 from Seven News in Melbourne with 335,000.

Major Markets: Again a mixed night. Seven was very solid in Sydney where Nine was weak. Seven won overall and the main channels from Nine and Ten, as it did in Adelaide.

In Perth, Nine was very soft and was again third between Ten in second and Seven. In Melbourne and Brisbane Nine won, with Ten second and Seven third in Melbourne, while in Brisbane it was Seven second and Ten third. GO won Melbourne and Brisbane. 7TWO won Sydney and Adelaide, while 7TWO and 7mate shared Perth. Glenn Dyer’s comments: The real star was Home and Away which once again did strongly at 7pm for Seven and has outlasted Nine’s endless repeats of Two and a Half Men and now repeats of The Big Bang Theory, which is rapidly heading the same way as Two and a Half Men simply because Nine has overused it (on the main channel and on the GO digital channel).

Nine should look at last night’s line ups; it completely avoided appealing to female viewers. That’s main reason why Nine’s audience is down 20% so far this year: it has forgotten to appeal to female viewers and the attempts they have made have been poorly executed.

Figures out yesterday show that the first episode of Angry Boys last Wednesday was one of the most recorded programs seen in this country for some time. The program has 1.369 million viewers when it debuted on the ABC at 9pm Wednesday week ago.

The seven day record and replay figures issued yesterday show that a huge 280,000 recordings of the program were made and viewed, lifting its total audience over the week by 20.5% to 1.649 million. That made it the most watched program on the night, beating Australia’s Got Talent (an extra 88,000 records and replays, which boosted the total audience to 1.611 million) and MasterChef, just 22,000 extra record and replays to 1.464 million.

TONIGHT: AFL and NRL on Seven (Better Homes and Gardens as well) and Nine. MasterChef on Ten. The ABC has a new British crime police drama called Thorne. The books aren’t bad. Be worth a look.

Saturday: NRL and AFL on Foxtel, AFL on Ten, Spooks, which seems to be jumping the mythical shark. It’s the final (thankfully). Dr Who, earlier on the ABC.

Sunday: Morning chats. Oh, dear, The Kennedys mini special series on the ABC. Reviews from offshore aren’t good. Dancing With The Stars on Seven, MasterChef on Ten. In Their Footsteps on Nine. Dateline on SBS.
