News dominating the headlines yesterday again included the revelation that voters prefer Kevin Rudd over Julia Gillard.
If somehow magically Kevin Rudd were to make enough friends in the Labor part to get another guernsey, Labor would be in an election-winning position, goes the line. Malcolm Turnbull also fares well against Tony Abbott. But neither of these scenarios are likely to play out in the near, or even distant, future. We’ve reached new levels of creative news gathering when a hypothetical is leading the news cycle.
As Bernard Keane pointed out yesterday regarding Essential Media’s polling on the subject: “Part of the explanation lies in the continuing problem for Gillard and Abbott that voters don’t have a high regard for them – a situation that is getting worse for both leaders.” All the polling outfits have run this Rudd v Gillard set of questions, repeatedly now. And the media love it. But if we’re going to trade in reporting unlikely scenarios, we may as well have fun with it.
Here at Crikey we outsourced, sorry, crowd sourced, our readers to collate a much more interesting sample question. Twitter came up with so many answers that this resembles more of a Senate ticket…
Vote below the line — and win a pack of First Dog Cooty Notes.
The Big Mallee Root, with the umpire as deputy. It would be unOstraylan not to have something with the word “root” as PM.
And everyone loves umpires, they’d be taking the flak for the big rooted one
Very funny – NOT!!
So now we are into comedy to “not mention the war” er… the only candidate who could win your poll outright. A bit of reality therapy here might be useful? You can all continue to play games, but the fact remains that without Rudd, the Labour party is stuffed. Because of the sheer stupidity of the luminaries in the Labor party (and others – if the cap fits, wear it!), the rest of us are going to be burdened with the ghastly Mr. rAbbott. I’m thinking of emmigrating if that happens!!

I might join you if phoney Toney ever becomes PM.
I could just put up with Turnbull but the failed priest and admitted liar Abbott never!
