Carp eh diem.
Sorry to carp on, but these are silver carp which are an invasive species in the Mississippi basin. They’re actually talking about restricting movement of cargo through locks up by the headwaters to try and prevent the spread and now I can see why. I’m sure it’s good fun and a quick feed (if you want to eat carp), but zoinks! Imagine if those were cane toads!
when I saw the video I had a wow-how-beautiful-is-nature-what-a-pleasure-to-be-alive moment, but then started reading about the introduction of the species, its destruction of river ecosystems across half of North America and the likelihood that Darwin’s Nightmare will soon also befall the Great Lakes, and I calmly returned to to quiet despair. http://www.asiancarp.org
