LOL Alien invasions. Pure gold. 😀
Alas, it might not be quite such a “fake” threat….
Should Rick Perry actually become POTUS.
Does he have an Antarctic lair and a genetically engineered pet lynx?
This is not a new idea….it’s just a new version of the “declare war on the sea” strategy recommended during the great depression to stimulate the world’s economy without the loss of human life associated with a real war. Kevin Rudd’s pink batts, LCD cheques, and school hall building program was slightly better.
My life at a run; a second world war child, end of war teen-ager, watching the iron curtain come down, living through the quite real terror of the ‘Cuba crisis’ in New Jersey with an overseas husband and two infant children, the Vietnam war, the deaths, the lies of Nixon and Kissinger, the middle east….never ending hostility and death.
Krugman is younger than I am, but he presents a modification of the gospel according to the writer, offered for decades to anyone who would listen: the only way humans will have connection, understanding, caring, work together for what’s best for humanity, is if we were to be invaded by beings from another planet.
Since that is not credible, the question will soon, relatively speaking, be answered. Which do we kill off first, humanity or the planet?
Well I thought action on global warming would boost the US economy and drive cooperation to avert catastrophe…
but instead there’s denial and division over it.
So if threatened by an alien invasion (even real)…
Expect excuses, denials and absolute refusal to face the challenge.
