Front page of the day. The Independent leads large today over the latest revelations stemming from the Leveson inquiry:
Murdoch: I didn’t read crucial phone-hacking email
“Fresh questions about the extent of James Murdoch’s knowledge of the phone-hacking scandal were raised on Tuesday when it emerged he received an email that included a briefing indicating that the activity had not been confined to a single ‘rogue reporter’.” — The Guardian
NotW legal head: rogue reporter defence ‘erroneous’
“The former legal head of the News of the World Tom Crone has told the Leveson inquiry that he felt the ‘rogue reporter explanation’ was ‘erroneous from the outset’, with the phrase first used by News International in 2007.” — journalism.co.uk
2011 a year of TV executive change
“Just 18 months ago six men were directly steering our TV networks. By January 1 all of them will have been replaced or initiated management restructures that shift others into the driver’s seat.” — TV Tonight
We must beat blogs, demands AP memo
“You would think that the AP would be satisfied with its status as ‘last remaining source of non-local ‘news’ for 95% of American newspapers.’ But no! Now they want to be kings of the internet, and whatnot, as well.” — Gawker
Russian journalists axed after election coverage
“A high-ranking editor and a top executive from one of Russia’s most respected news publications were dismissed on Tuesday after an apparent conflict over coverage that appeared to highlight widespread anger with the results of parliamentary elections this month.” — New York Times
Gawke sued over New Yorker art con story
“A strange libel lawsuit that reads like a pulp version of the The Da Vinci Code just became a bit stranger — the controversial art world figure who is suing the New Yorker is now taking aim at other media outlets that repeated the venerable magazine’s allegations.” — Paid Content
Ailes on Ailes: Fox News chief writing his story
“According to several sources with direct knowledge of Roger Ailes’s plans, the Fox News chief is currently at work on an autobiography.” — NY Magazine
Another day and another revelation. Isn’t it amazing James Murdoch always manages not to have read too closely any information that might damage his ongoing claims of “I saw nothing, I know nothing, I can’t recall, someone else did it – I’m not to blame.” It is becoming quite evident that James Murdoch is just ducking and weaving lying “spiv”- just like his dad. He and his daddy Rupert must be hoping that by keeping the details of this sordid affair out of the mainstream media that they control, that one day it might all go away. He is right in that respect. Try finding any ongoing reference of any of this in the Australian arm of News Ltd publications or the electronic media SkyNews – you won’t. No doubt once this all blows over there will be an attempt to polish over and remake the image of James and Rupert. There is a saying – no matter how hard you try you cannot polish a t*rd. Thank goodness the Australian Government kept News Ltd SkyNews well away from the AN broadcasting overseas network. For that I am eternally grateful.
Still very good to read, just like listening to a great hit,
is the account written by Melissa Harrison. She organized a Twitter
campaign that targeted the advertisers of the soon later closed NoTW.
Murdoch might not have closed that tabloid would advertisers have
carried on as usual.

What if something is happening again, once people are getting fed up sufficiently
to join some campaign, whatever, something that promises to be effective?
Joss, an interesting article, thank you for the link. As rightly pointed out by Melissa Harrison, the only way to get back at anything these days is through denial of income – this time advertisers pulling the plug. I personally avoid buying anything that may have a hint of a News Corp product to deny them my few dollars. If enough people do that, the cumilative effect – a drop in newspaper circulation. Have not purchased the Australian for many years and would never buy that crappy rag the Sun Herald.
Saw reference to James Murdoch latest effort on SBS news. Not a dickie-bird on SkyNews, what a surprise!
