Jill Masters, I remember seeing Kevin Rudd’s ‘Sorry’ speech on TV, Carl Sagan on life, the universe and everything on TV, film of Martin Luther King and the unforgettable Nelson Mandela on TV. This wasn’t about who they were; it was about what they said, the delivery, the oration. I’m stoked that someone gets it together to film and record thousands of speeches annually so that the 1% brilliance can get to the surface.
I had never heard of Gabby Giffords, apart from tiny news reports from a year ago, and I hadn’t heard her speak. I believed every word she said in her resignation speech. There was no artifice, no stage management, no spin. Gabby Giffords is a great loss to representative government but the world still has this totally first class person as a role model. Bravo! Gabby Giffords. Meeting you has made my day!

If you have any awareness of the tragic situation confronting Gabby Giffords and her courageous battle to recover, you would think twice before posting your sillycomments. This woman was a Democratic Representative, equivalent of one of our members of Parliament, shot down by a crazy killer. Her courageous rehabilitation is something to be admired, and the sincerity of her speech was palpable despite the speech impediment arising from being shot in the head. She would be worth a thousand Julia Gillards.
