Aussie comedy takes aim at Age critic Jim Schembri (again)
Stephan Elliott, director of new Australian film A Few Best Men — which opened last week with the most successful box office figures of any Australian comedy over the past decade — used his podium at the inaugural AACTA awards to launch into a bitter spray against The Age critic Jim Schembri, who described the film as “unreleasable”. The A Few Best Men marketing team have taken their anti-Schembri crusade a step further, with this snide advertisement in The Age:
They quoted many a favourable review — but they were all sourced from random users on Facebook, not exactly a respected source of critical inquiry. Schembri was not the only person who savaged A Few Best Men. However, he began his review describing Elliott’s previous film as a “classy triumph”, and the director as “worthy of so much better”, which makes Elliott’s claims that Schembri personally attacked him not just unsubstantiated, but bizarre. — Luke Buckmaster

Schembri has been an issue for years, comtroversial for the sake of it
Praise for Tony Jones from Palmer (another with enough money to be used to getting their own way, and “due deference”?)? Move on, nothing to see here.
What is Lateline and 7:30 (like The Drum, deferring to Reith as a “consultant” – on anything but “The Degeneration of Australian Politics – and My Roll in It”?), but an echo chamber for Limited News’ setting agenda? A pale imitation of what they used to be.
In what the present incumbents (including “producers”) have done to the legacy of those gone before, establishing that highly esteemed reputation being tattered and torn? Using two-toned interviewing techniques – (monochrome for the Left, nailing them – and pastels for the Right as they’re allowed to babble on) as if for fear of upsetting the Limited News Party?
Little more than a Murdochracy.
(But that interview did remind me of the sstories my cousin used to tell me about the time he did in “shared accomodation” with “Big Lewy” – when he broke out the soft-soap, my cousin broke out in a sweat!)
