Sphincters are quite nice to have and very useful, actually. More than can be said for some.

Typhoid = systemic infection with Salmonella typhi: Extremely rare, notifiable bacterial infection. Last lethal case in Australia 1972. Last documented person to person transmission in Australia 1988 – since all one has to do to stop transmission is wash hands before handling food (though I did see a domestically acquired case in a bloke who swam out to nick some oysters from a farm in NSW in 1995). Most commonly acquired in places with inadequate sanitation (like refugee camps, offshore processing facilities and war zones). Most cases fly in as returning tourists, with a smattering in immigrants. Relatively easy to diagnose on blood or stool culture. Easily treated. In other words: exactly the sort of soluble problem that our immigration and health infrastructure is set up to deal with.

Yes yes, FD, facts are all very well (in their place) but what the public needs to know is what Chris Uhlmann et al think of Morro’s expose. We thirst to hear their commentary and predictions. Facts are just facts, nothing more.
If Morro is afraid of infections it may be worth pointing out to him that in the House of Reps he’s proximate to many germs, some more high profile and virulent than others.

Right Hand Wombat – that’s why I for one come here to the Doggonaut Lounge; Insult education. Why stop with a mere undergrad degree ? I wonder whether one can secure on of those leaky boats. They seem far more bio-safe than the parliamentary dining room.

I think your arithmetic (or something) is incorrect. The grand total is not 6,122,000 (which would be closer to 27%), but rather 612,200.
More than one quarter of the Australian population would be a completely different cause for concern.
