For those following the debates in recent years about the representation of women in publishing, literary journals, book reviews etc. VIDA: Women in Literary Arts this week announced their second annual count of the publication rates between women and men in some of the world’s most respected literary outlets, such as The New Yorker, Granta, The London Review of Books, The Atlantic and The Paris Review.

VIDA wrote in a press release that ‘the publication numbers don’t look markedly different than last year’s. But we at VIDA aren’t discouraged by this fact – we know that significant cultural change takes time.’ And there is, indeed, still far less blue on these pie charts than red, whether the categories are book reviews, book reviewers, interviews or articles (with the notable exception of Granta).
