The Glenn Dyer breakdown: Lleyton Hewitt was valiant in losing his match last night, and while Seven bosses will cheer his valour, they will miss the ratings impact in the next two weeks of his performance on centre court in Melbourne.
Seven simply streeted the opposition last night in metro and regional markets, thanks to Hewitt’s efforts. Seven’s big win more than regained the lead Nine had built up on Sunday night with the Australia-Sri Lanka one-day cricket match. Ten was again weak (except in Brisbane) with the ABC doing better elsewhere (and especially in Sydney) and in regional markets.
And judging by the way the Melbourne 6 to 7pm news and current affairs ratings are going, Santa didn’t leave a black hole filler in Seven’s stocking on Christmas Eve. Seven News and TT are still being drubbed by Nine and ACA in that market. In some markets (in regional areas), TT was impacted by the live tennis from Melbourne.
Tonight: Bernie Tomic (who plays tonight, as does Roger Federer) and Sam Stosur are now Seven’s go-to Ozzie ratings boosters, so long as they continue to survive. ABC1 has a repeat of New Tricks and then Next Stop Hollywood. Ten has more Jamie Oliver meals and then NCIS repeats. Nine has repeats from 7pm to 10.30pm when we get a fresh Survivor.
