Nine’s night, but it wasn’t universal — folks in Perth preferred Seven’s weak offerings to Hamish and Andy and The Block on Nine. But Nine also had another strong night in the regions, where it won solidly.

Seven though gave the impression of running dead, and Ten also couldn’t boast about last night — even though MasterChef lifted slightly to 1.086 million national/ 800,000 metro/ 286,000 regional viewers, Wanted at 8.30pm fell to 796,000 national/ 543,000 metro/ 256,000 regional viewers. That’s a 20% loss nationally from its debut audience last week of 999,000 national /649,000 metro/350.000 regional viewers. Wanted is boring and derivative.

But the biggest current flop is Red Widow on Seven at 9.30pm, who’s already sub-par performance become derisory — rating 579,000 national/ 349,000 metro/ 230,000 regional viewers, compared with the previous Monday night’s 660,000 national/428,000 metro/ 232,000 regional viewers. It is getting what the weak and stupid storyline deserves.

Sally Fletcher turned up on Home and Away last night looking a bit lost. She needs taking in hand. The audience will, though it didn’t budge last night, with the program averaging around a normal Monday night’s figures with 1.497 million national/ 965,000 metro/ 532,000 regional viewers.

Viewer warning: Tonight on Nine from 9pm, two one-hour episodes of The Bible. There are 10 one-hour episodes — the series was produced for the History Channel in the US by husband and wife Roma Downey and Mark Burnett (yes, Survivor, The Apprentice and other bits of TV flotsam and jetsam). I bet that if the idea had come from a couple of new producers, it wouldn’t have made it to air, ever. There will be no warnings for viewers about historical/geological inaccuracies. There are many, as a long list of stupidities listed on Wikipedia attest. For example, for the Nativity, the three wise men are shown visiting the baby Jesus as a newborn, at the same time as the shepherds, where as the Bible suggests the wise men came about two years later. Where are Victor Mature or Charlton Heston when you need them for a biblical epic?
