A weak night. Nine won Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Seven won Adelaide and Perth. In regional markets it was almost a tie in All People between Nine and Seven, with the former just edging out the latter in the main channels. The ABC was a dominant third, with Ten a weak fourth, as in metro markets.

ABC1’s Upper Middle Bogan (1.024 million national/ 687,000 metro/ 337,000 regional viewers) and It’s a Date (878,000 national/ 584,000 metro/ 290,000 regional viewers) stood out for originality — audience levels were down 150,000 to 200,000 on last week. If it hadn’t been for these two programs last night would have been a wasted night.

More sport is not enough this weekend. The AFL finals continue (Go the mighty Swannies), the NRL finals start, there’s Davis Cup tennis, there’s golf from the US, one-day cricket from England, horse racing and rugby union tests, and netball between Australia and NZ
