So to the state elections, and a couple of one-paper towns, where on polling eve the message to voters is clear.
In South Australia, The Advertiser writes:
“It’s clear SA is ready for fresh ideas and leadership and the Liberal Party is best placed to deliver this. We must free business from unnecessary shackles and create a bold new path to prosperity for now and future generations.
The job of governing South Australia for the next four years will be no easy ride. But, after 12 years of Labor, the Liberal Party should be given the opportunity to put its plan into action.”
And in Tasmania, The Mercury writes:
“It is fair to say Labor has lost the support of Tasmanians and the Liberals are the beneficiaries, and as such will have much to prove. But, equally, Mr [Liberal leader Will] Hodgman has carried out a largely faultless campaign and the only glove landed on him over the past month came courtesy of Mick Newell.
“So for now we argue it is time for a change.”
We reckon voters should make up their own minds. But according to the polls, they already have. The News Corp tabloids are on the right side of history.

Let’s get these elections over with pronto so the nation is 100% LNP controlled. Then let’s sit back & see the fun unfold when it doesn’t turn out to be G0d’s own country & the internal squabbles begin.
News Corp won’t have anything to fill their rags should they choose not to publish anything negative or damaging to the conservatives. Perhaps Rupert should resolve just to report sport for the next couple of years.
Think of the paper they’ll save – not slagging ‘n bagging a (Limited News Party) government.
These are beyond parody but unfortunately nearly 10% of our population suffers beneath the yolk (sic!)of mudorc meeja.
FFS! – “bold new path to prosperity” sounds like a discarded line from Eric Blair’s waste basket and the classic “time for change” back to the past of forelock tugging and gratitude for crumbs from Master’s overburdened table.
I well remember writing on this blog a couple of months ago, exhorting Crikey NOT to write off the ALP government in South Australia. Having lived half my long life in SA, it didn’t make sense to me that the Liberal Party could win six seats and a majority in the parliament at this election.
Happily that hasn’t eventuated today, but we await the final outcome later next week. At this stage, it appears the ALP will have the majority of the seats, but we will have a hung parliament.
People should be more careful about what they wish for!!
