Nine’s night in metro and regional markets thanks to room reveals on The Block and then the 60 Minutes special on the terrible Daniel Morcombe case in Queensland. The Block had 2.222 million national/ 1.571 million metro/ 651,000 regional viewers. 60 Minutes had 2.090 million national/ 1.477 million metro/ 613,000 regional viewers.
Seven’s My Kitchen Rules tasted defeat for a second time in a week. Seven had more viewers overall, but Nine won the main channels and the main demos in a solid performance. That result was self-inflicted as were low figures for Sunday Night and Downton Abbey. That’s because My Kitchen Rules and Downton Abbey were not broadcast in Adelaide due to coverage of the Port Adelaide-Carlton AFL game. Sunday Night was broadcast in Adelaide at 10:00pm following the AFL. Sunday Night had 69,000 viewers in Adelaide, the AFL game averaged 170,000 and a further 270,000 on Fox Footy on Pay TV.
Ten shuffled into third spot ahead of the ABC simply because the Formula One Grand Prix broadcast finished around 7pm. It had 1.662 million national viewers and 1.337 million metro viewers, plus 325,000 in the regions. Clearly fast cars don’t fascinate regional viewers. Having an Australian driver in the top two or three for much of the race helped, even if he was flicked on a rule infringement after the race ended.Ten’s repeat movie Thor also rated around 200,000 – 300,000 more viewers than the shunted So You Think You Can Dance Australia.
The Bolt Report was preempted by the start of the Grand Prix telecast which started with an hour long tribute to Australian driver Mark Webber. Seeing there were two state elections to cover, you’d think Ten would have found time or a channel to broadcast Bolt. But it couldn’t or wasn’t interested. If a network is serious about news and current affairs, it should have pushed that back an hour or half hour and given Bolt a program yesterday. Time for Peter Meakin to make his mark in this policy area. The ABC’s Insiders had a total of 447,000 national viewers on ABC1 and News 24 for the live broadcast. That was up around 50,000 or so because of the elections. Ten’s 5pm news was preempted in Sydney and Melbourne by the Grand Prix.

“Losers: Viewers of The Bolt Report.”
That is all you needed to write. The rest of that paragraph is superfluous.
