After the excitement of the State of Origin and the World Cup game involving Australia and the Netherlands, TV viewing returned to its normal Thursday night offering of blah, except for The Checkout and Carlotta on ABC1 and MasterChef on Ten. Nine had The Footy Show and Seven was, well, forgettable.
Nationally, The Checkout had 1.192 million viewers and Carlotta had 1.156 million. Masterchef had 1.409 million nationally, Home and Away, 1.374 million and The Footy Show had 1.217 million.
Nine had narrow wins in metro and regional markets. The Footy Show had its highest Sydney audience of the year last night of 269,000, which was understandable given the NSW win in the State of Origin series on Wednesday night (which the show celebrated last night). Nine News had big wins in Sydney (a massive 135,000), Melbourne (76,000) and Brisbane (36,000). But in the morning Sunrise (359,000) again streeted Today (293,000 and the fourth sub-300,000 audience in a row).
The Australia-Netherlands World Cup match had 711,000 national/ 572,000 metro/ 139,000 regional viewers, plus tens of thousands watching in clubs and pubs and other venues … from 2am. Fantastic!
