The Block Glasshouse and the Footy Shows (especially the AFL version in Melbourne) gave Nine a big win in metro markets and a very sold main channel win in regional areas (Seven grabbed a small overall win in the regionals last night, but that was insignificant). Ten was third in all markets, and the ABC was fourth.

The Block Glasshouse had 1.696 million national/1.134 million metro/562,000 regional viewers. The Footy Show had 1.307 million national/979,000 metro/328,000 regional viewers. That was a solid performance, but a few years ago that national figure would have been fine for the metros alone. The Bachelor on Ten cracked the million viewer market and the national top 10 with 1.017 million viewers. Seven’s The Amazing Race ended the current run, buried last night at 9pm (and up against the Footy Shows, especially the AFL version). The Race had 660,000 national/416,000 metro/244,000 regional viewers. Can Seven revive this flop and bring it back in 2015?

The AFL Footy Show, faded as it is — a veritable Dowager of the forward 50 these days — still managed to do the job last night for Nine, especially in Melbourne where 535,000 people watched, and I bet that 530,000 were fans of anybody but the Swans! The Melbourne audience was the highest since 2009, and was the biggest audience in any market last night. Carn the Swannies! There are NRL finals tonight and tomorrow night, if anyone is interested.
