Seven won the metros in total people and the main channels, but in the regions Nine won the main channels after Seven won overall.

Did anyone see the interview on Nine’s A Current Affair as Tracy Grimshaw met One Direction?  Well, thankfully for Nine, not many people did see it as ACA’s metro audience plunged to just 547,000 viewers. And still on Nine, the main channel last night looked like Gem (the network’s second digital channel) with  New Tricks and Midsomer Murders (two ABC staples repeated until they all but dried out on ABC). Gem had two movies, including a Nine staple in Muriel’s Wedding (which I think has just had an outing on Gem earlier this month). New Tricks could only manage 438,000 metro  viewers and Midsomer Murders, 193,000, which was beaten by A Touch of Frost on 7TWO with 265,000 metro viewers. New Tricks and Midsomer Murders are Nine’s Thursday night line up. Welcome to summer. (snore)

Beauty and The Geek ended with a whimper, like Big Brother did the night before. The final episode had 884,000 national viewers, the second final episode had 819,000.

In the morning Today with 335,000 metro viewers, got close to Sunrise with 358,000, but Studio 10 on Ten had its second sub 40,000 audience (37,000) in a row. The Wake Up blues?

Losers: Anyone who watched ACA and the interview with One Directio or the two episodes of Beauty and The Geek Australia as Seven sort of smuggled it out  ofsight. There wasn’t even the now usual ‘Winner Announced’ separate coding for ratings (as we saw on Wednesday night with Big Brother). That gives the impression Seven just wanted to see the back of it (as the network did with The Big Adventure earlier in the week).Metro news and current affairs:
