The One Day International cricket match between Australia and India from the MCG dominated viewing yesterday afternoon and last night. The second session (at night, when Australia batted) had 2.228 million viewers across the country — more than three times the size of the audiences some of the Big Bash games on Ten have been grabbing. There were 1.451 million metro and 777,000 regional viewers. The afternoon session (when India batted) averaged 1.594 million national viewers; with 991,000 metro and 603,000 regional viewers. And that was the night.

Some good news for local TV broadcasters — Nine will have the 2015-16 season of first year hit, Gotham to use for much of the year after Fox confirmed it was being renewed for that season. Fox also confirmed it was renewing Brooklyn-Nine-Nine, which will make SBS (and me) happy. Empire (another first year Fox drama which Nine has yet to broadcast) has also been given a second season.
