A mixed result in the metros. Seven narrowly won Total people, Nine, the main channels, while Ten was a narrow third ahead of the ABC. But in the regional markets Seven was an easy winner, both overall and the main channels, while the ABC was a clear third and Ten a weak fourth. And that’s probably all you can say about what was an average night of TV.

The Checkout on ABC stood out at 8pm with 1.071 million national viewers. Seven’s Home and Away at 7pm also starred with 1.204 million national viewers. Apart from that, the most watched programs were news broadcasts and the audience splintered after that. My Ireland With Colin on Seven (its second part) averaged 1.101 million and added not much to the greater scheme of things except to publicise a Sydney cook who is the ’nasty’ chef on My Kitchen Rules. In other words, it was a bit of fluff from Seven. Downton Abbey on Seven slipped to 1.002 million viewers. Like the British upper classes its lives it has been charting, a fading beauty. Nine’s Footy Show had 943,000 viewers, including 696,000 in the metro markets, the best for the year so far.
