This week we continue Crikey’s 15th birthday celebration with another commemorative timeline, this time for 2011.

Perhaps the biggest news of the year came as the decade-long manhunt for the terrorist mastermind behind 9/11 culminated in a hail of bullets: Osama bin Laden was shot dead by a team of US special forces in a a house in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Here and abroad, 2011 was a tough year for News Corp. In the wake of the News of the World phone-hacking scandal, UK Prime Minister David Cameron launched the Leveson Inquiry, precipitating the “most humble day” of Daddy Murdoch’s life. Later on, in Australia, Andrew Bolt was found guilty of breaching the Racial Discrimination Act.

Here in the Crikey bunker, we had a whole bunch of fun imagining what it would be like to see Tony Abbott debate Tony Abbott on the merits of climate change.
