Last night? Glad you reminded me because it was a pretty big stretch to say it was a night of entertainment — more like incipient boredom. Summer’s magic is upon us. Snooze button hit, Kindle at the ready, watch! Seven showed its mettle by programming a repeat of a big boat doco that has already cruised the briny blue one or twice — Inside Queen Mary 2 and a repeat of Surveillance Oz Dashcam. (Who cares?). Not one program in metro markets with a million or more viewers. The top seven programs all news and current affairs offerings and the first non-news program was Home and Away on Seven at 7pm. And the total share for the 11 digital channels was 33.5%, which was greater than the combined shares of any network last night. The main channel offerings drove hundreds of thousands of viewers away to the digital offerings.
In the morning Sunrise (350,000) moved back in front of Today (311,000). News Breakfast is ending another solid year well — 163,000 viewers yesterday morning on ABC and News 24, and Studio 10 continues to build with a solid (relatively speaking) 77,000 viewers. Seven News had a solid win at 6pm despite losing the east-coast markets — solid wins in Adelaide and especially Perth had it home over Nine News by 23,000 viewers. Seven’s 6.30pm effort also beat Nine’s 6.30pm offering, 899,000 to 850,000. Seven won the metro and regional markets, but the offerings were simply, weak.
