I’m sorry but turf and wooden place mat thingies on MKR last night lost me and I don’t care about the deer meat, the wild bore (the program, not the main dish) and the dessert which was a mousse with ice cream and chocolate. The table manners were again rotten and everyone was dressed as though they were going to an over the top wedding — with the turf place mats to be grazed on if the courses dragged.

But I am in a minority. MKR streeted the opposition last night, again, pushing Seven to a bigger win in the metros and regions than on Monday night. Ten’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here continued to lose ground, but was popular in the demos and the audience was up on episode three of 2015. MKR averaged 2.131 million viewers including 1.533 million in the metros and the most watched program in the regionals. Celebrity managed 1.169 million national viewers: down around 300,000 or so viewers from Sunday night’s return.

MKR is only off 27,000 viewers from Monday night’s return. But MKR was clearly the most dominant program on TV last night: 440,000 more people watched it in the metros than the next most watched program, Nine’s 6pm news, and nationally MKR was watched by 662,000 more people than watched Nine’s 6pm News. And it is a very dominant winner of the viewing demos, with Celebrity a distant second. That in turn Nine is struggling after two nights.

Nine’s US movie, Grease Live  could only attract 574,000 national viewers, including 452,000 in the metros: that was for three and a half hours though from 8.30pm. That was a big ask. it should show up better in the seven day recording figures in a week’s time.

The top five regional programs last night were MKR with 598,000; Home and Away on 518,000; The Chase Australia (5.30pm), 397,000; Nine News, 372,000; ABC News, 353,000.

In the morning Sunrise’s new look couldn’t do the trick for the second morning and it slipped behind Today in the metros, 344,000 to 333,000 (Sunrise still won nationally, easily). Nine News snuck past Seven News in the metros, despite The Chaser Australia at 5.30pm again doing much better than Nine’s Hot Seat.

Tonight, Seven trots out the first of its new 2016 program ideas, First Dates, at 9pm. It’s all aimed at poisoning the ground for the likes of The Bachelor and Bachelorette on Ten.
