Seven’s night thanks to Home and Away, My Kitchen Rules (and that couple!) and the debut of the new dramedy, Wanted. Nine did well with its debut of Here Come The Habibs. But withhold judgement about their success until we see how many return next week and the week after. It’s the size of the drop-off which determines success and failure. Seven won strongly in the metros, and dominantly in the regions in Total People and the major demos.

And right now, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here with the whingeing Mr Shane Warne is having a dry patch, another night where it failed to have any impact in the metros, regions or nationally after its promising start. It managed 1.036 million national viewers by early Oztam figures, 889,000 by Ten’s reckoning. The Oztam figures adjusted for times would have it around 1 million which is barely enough. It’s up on last year’s debut episode, but the best you can say that it is “consolidating” after last week’s strong opening.

MKR had a new season high 2.712 million viewers last night (1.882 million in the metros, also a season high) thanks to the first elimination episode and the audience question of whether the painful Zana and her partner Gianni would deliver. They won the night, lead the competition and will be the ratings drivers for as long as they are there, which could be the grand final judging by their effort last nigt). Cheryl and Matt were flicked for their low score last week. Wanted was second nationally with 1.767 million for Seven and third in the metros with 1.184 million. And Here Comes The Habibs was third nationally with 1.617 million viewers and second in the metros with 1.249 million. The bottom line this morning is: Seven very happy, Nine happy, Ten content, but keep a wary eye on Celebrity.

The top shows in regional markets were MKR with a season high 831,000, Wanted with 583,000, Home and Away with 532,000, The Chase Australia (5.30pm) with 414,000 and Here Comes The Habibs with 368,000.

In the morning Sunrise snuck back in front of Today in the metros — 335,000 to 316,000, but remains ahead nationally.

Losers: Anyone who didn’t like food, female skewing dramedy or Habibs. If people applaud and like The Family Law on SBS on Thursday nights, why then do the same luvvies complain about Here Come The Habibs? They both work stereotypes. If Here Come The Habibs reaches the same heights as The Family Law, then for one I will be very pleased, as the latter is top notch and actually much riskier TV than Habibs.Metro news and current affairs:
