Crikey writes: Re. “Tips and Rumours: Environmental Degradation” (Thursday). We reported that the major of Environmental Science will no longer be available at the University of Melbourne following the removal of the Bachelor of Environments. This is incorrect: the major will be available in the Bachelor of Science.
On EMMA
Peter Matters writes: Re. “Everyone’s a winner, baby: readership figures universally good (if you know where to look)” (Friday). When founded, The Australian was Rupert’s dream and more than likely a concession in honour of his well loved mother. He has been prepared on losing on it for many years, but no longer. In 2015 no paper can afford to be in the red. The one time gold mines the gutter press and the shock jocks, are looking shabbier by the day. The Oz may or may not now be in profit and Murdoch himself — once a demagogue — has now degenerated into a has-been.
He and his yelping hounds have been open to public ridicule since he, the puppeteer, succeeded by use of all his capacity for venom, abuse and plain lies to install his favourite puppet as Prime Minister against an opponent who managed to run a surprisingly effective government against Murdoch’s tsunami of mud with her main handicap being the wrong sex.
Since his choice turned out to be a hopeless buffoon, the electorate caught on that they had been brain washed and Murdoch himself lost all credibility — more so since the growing multitude of public media generally provides now a fair quality reportage. In short, vale Murdoch and Abbott.
Labor-Coalition-Greens
Chris Davis writes: Re. “Labouring hard on a story of Greens-Liberal conspiracies” (Friday). I wish all anti-Labor-blaming people would first recognise that the ALP has for decades maintained a bi-partisan approach to refugees and security. They will support the government of the day on these issues, regardless that the LNP themselves broke this under Abbott and are unlikely to return when next in opposition. Be critical of ALP support in other areas but not these. They are cheap shots.
