This morning, via ABC News:
“The maker of Nurofen, Reckitt Benckiser, has been fined $1.7 million for breaching consumer laws.
“Last year, the Federal Court found Nurofen’s ‘specific pain range’ misled consumers because they all contained the same active ingredient and did the same thing.
“The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission had asked the Federal Court to impose a fine of $6 million.”
February 15, via International Business Times:
“Home and health products manufacturer Reckitt Benckiser said its full-year results exceeded expectations, thanks to a strong performance across both established and developing markets and a sharp increase in fourth-quarter revenue.
“In the 12 months to the end of December, total net revenue at the FTSE 100 group grew 5% year-on-year on a constant currency basis to £8.87bn, while like-for-like revenue rose by a better-than-expected 6%.”
Another limp wrist slap. As if this fine will hurt! No doubt it will also be written off somewhere.
Let’s hope the bad publicity is priceless.
Fine amount should be calculated as a percentage of revenue.
At a 5c a packet, how long will it take us to pay that fine for them?
The fine should be twice the reported profits over the time period in question.
The first half to ensure crime doesn’t pay.
The second half to discourage them from trying it on again in the future.
And the fine should not be tax deductible.
