The Voice clearly established itself last night as the reality program to beat for the next three months or so as it added to the its audience from Sunday’s return from the year, while Masterchef slipped and House Rules slumped. The Voice had 1.923 million national viewers and 1.409 million metros and number one in the regions with 514,000 viewers. Masterchef had 1.303 million, about steady. But because of higher regional viewers which offset a fall in the metros from 1.012 million on Sunday night to 949,000 last night.

But House Rules was hammered — 1.109 million last night down from 1.327 million on Sunday night. The metro audience tumbled to just 686,000 from 830,000 on Sunday night. House Rules was held up by another solid regional audience of 443,000, or around 75% of the metro audience. If they lose heart in regional Australia, then House Rules will join Reno Rumble in the list of Losers of 2016. At the moment it’s teetering on the edge.

Nine added to its big win (probably the best performance so far this year in official ratings) with a solid 1.172 million for the warbling Adele Live from New York (830,000 in the metros) from 9pm

The most watched programs in regional markets were: The Voice with 514,000; Home and Away, 504,000; The Chase Australia 5.30pm 471,000; Nine News, 449,000; House Rules, 443,000.

In the mornings Today had a narrow metro win over Sunrise, 328,000 to 321,000.
