It might have been Nine’s night in the metros thanks to The Voice, but in the regions, Seven easily won the night and the result again raised the question of the attractiveness of The Voice to regional viewers. The Voice managed 1.709 million national and 1.214 million metro viewers — down more than 200,000 from the solid Monday night.

Masterchef managed more than 1.35 million national viewers and cracked the million mark in the metros with 1.029 million. That put it well ahead of House Rules which had 1.160 million national and 729,000 metro viewers. Seven Year Switch did better for Seven with 1.292 million national and 849,000 metro viewers — the whisper of sex is obviously more seductive for viewers than bashing a wall down or tiling a bathroom.

In the regions, Home and Away topped the most watched list with 527,000, in front of The Voice with 495,000, The Chase Australia 5.30pm, 490,000 Seven Year Switch with 443,000, House Rules was on 431,000. With three programs in prime time in the top five, Seven’s win in the regions is easy to understand.

7.30 was again weak: 585,000 metro viewers in the first week of an election campaign is pretty light on.

Today easily won breakfast in the metros with 355,000 to a weak 289,000 for Sunrise. Today won nationally for a second day in a row — 522,000 to 504,000.

It’s almost time for the US TV up fronts and new programming/old programming births and deaths. Fox TV has revealed some old and golden ideas this morning with dramas The Exorcist, Lethal Weapon, A.P.B. and Pitch being picked up as series; and two comedies Making History and The Mick.
