Ten’s night in metros as it won the metro main channels. Seven finished on top of total people in the metros, but finished third in the main channels with Nine second. But in the regions it was again a very different story as Seven blew away the competition.

Masterchef had a very solid 1.475 million national viewers, while House Rules was also solid with 1.454 million people after another night of strong support from regional viewers. And that was the night. The absence of The Voice told against Nine. Nine brought back (exhumed) the 20 to 1 concept last night: it averaged 715,000 metro and national viewers and 308,000 in the regions for a national figure of 1.023 million.

In the regions the top program was Seven News with 691,000, followed by House Rules with 589,000; Home and Away with 588,000; Seven News/ Today Tonight with 518,000 and The Chase Australia 5pm with 512,000. And that’s why Seven was an easy regional winner.

In breakfast, Sunrise (324,000) had its second win in a row over Today (303,000). Trend alert? Not yet!

Oh, and if anyone hadn’t noticed (or is Victorian), it’s Blue v Maroon, Toad v Roach on Nine tonight. One of the three Blue Whale Rugby League wrestling matches of the year. And tonight’s effort will see the whales right at home in what is expected to be a damp night in Sydney. But I will be watching Mad As Hell at 8.30pm with Shaun Micallef (and a bit of the wrestling afterwards).

Losers: TV viewers. Not the strongest of nights unless you like property renovation or food. The election is turning us off : 7.30 finished out of the national top 10 with 1.029 national viewers and 713,000 in the metros (the same figure as for the 7pm bit of The Project). Sky News though continues to do well being the home of rightwing discontent, much like Fox News in the US.
