Seven won easily last night in both metro and regional markets with not very much at all. Ten had Masterchef, Nine had a content light night (it will win the week with the third Origin Rugby League game tomorrow night), and the ABC’s usual Monday night line of News and Current Affairs programs was solid, without being outstanding.

Masterchef with 1.573 million(1.165 million in the metros) was again solid for Ten, but with no opposition, it seems unable to regain the halcyon days when it was a top of the pops program every night it was on. Still the demos are great for Ten and it was again the most watched non-news program on the night.

Regionally, Seven News was the most watched with 668,000, with The Chase Australia 5.30pm on 518,000, with Home and Away on 515,000, Seven News/ Today Tonight was on 507,000 and Highway Patrol was fifth with 483,000.

But there was a sting at the end with Q&A back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons as rightwing would be shock jock, Steve Price made a right goose of himself on the panel last night with a demeaning (to himself) exchange with Guardian columnist, Van Badham. I wonder if Price would make the same lazy, stupid comment when he is on The Project on Ten with the likes of Carrie Bickmore? Surely the ABC can do better in finding a token conservative commentator (the pages of The Australian and other News Corp papers are littered with their musings). George Brandis and Tanya Plibersek also didn’t distinguish themselves with droning, political speak which reminded me (us viewers?) why the July 2 election campaign was such a bore and a chore. Brandis especially was snoringly dull. Q&A had a solid 947,000 people nationally — 683,000 in the metros and 265,000 in the regions.

In breakfast, Sunrise started the week with 298,000 metro viewers, with Today back on 282,000. Sunrise was a big national winner as well.
