The AFL game between Sydney and Hawthorn powered Seven to wins in the metros and the regions. And that was a disappointing night on the whole, with Nine dead in the water. Ten showed Nine you have to be in it all the time to do well with Masterchef and its Masterclass grabbing a decent chunk of viewers.  The Masterclass episode had 1.296 million viewers nationally.

The ABC repeated episode one of the disappointing Barracuda at 9.30 last night — it’s called an ’encore’ not a repeat. Networks use ‘encores’ to increase sampling (viewing) to try and boost or maintain interest in a program. In this case Barracuda didn’t disappoint: just 172,000 viewers in the metros, and 277,000 nationally, which is what it deserved.

Today again beat Sunrise in metro breakfast: 318,000 to 270,000. The gap is back.

In the regions, Seven News was tops with 560,000 people, with The Chase 5.30pm next with 486,000, Seven News/Today Tonight was third with 470,000, Nine News was fourth with 368,000 and Home and Away was on 368,000

Great AFL game: Swans stiffed, Umpires should have used a white cane to spot the number of Hawthorn throws and holding the balls in front of goal in the 4th quarter. The TDF was mad — for the second stage in three — a dramatic end to a dramatic stage shortened by huge 100 km hour winds on Mount Ventoux and a combination of ignorant spectators and too many motor bikes in one spit bringing TV coverage to the world. The AFL game had a total of 1.008 million on Seven, 7mate (682,000) and on Fox Footy (326,000). 381,000 people watched in Melbourne last night – the single biggest audience in any market of the night.

And now another attack in France this morning, our time.
