In his current book, Chris Mitchell, the former editor in chief of The Australian remarked of Lachlan Murdoch:
“As with his views on gun control in the United States, Lachlan’s conservatism is more vigorous than that of any Australian politician, Abbott included, and usually to the right of his father’s views.”
On Wednesday, in Los Angeles, Lachlan Murdoch gave confirmation of that in a speech (and his admiration for dad, Rupert) to a media industry conference, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter:
“Lachlan Murdoch also isn’t impressed with CNN or MSNBC, both of which compete with the more right-leaning Fox News Channel, so he sees no reason for new FNC co-presidents Bill Shine and Jack Abernethy to emulate either of those channels …
“‘He’s got more energy and ideas than ever,’ Murdoch said of his father. He added FNC has been the No. 1 cable news channel for 176 straight months.”
Murdoch’s comments came as the two new Fox News Channel co-presidents Bill Shine and Jack Abernethy received contract extensions on Wednesday from the Murdochs, a clear sign that they are not looking to replace Ailes as quickly as some might have thought. In his speech, Lachlan Murdoch revealed that dad Rupert loved being back in the harness (like a retired thoroughbred). He told the LA conference his father continues to be very much engaged in the day-to-day at Fox News; he’s a regular presence at Fox News headquarters on Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan and he continues to run the 9.30am editorial meeting. — Glenn Dyer
