On Jacqui Lambie and section 44’s annihilating effect

Barnes Graham writes: Re. “Don’t turn your back. Don’t look away. And don’t blink. You’ll miss another crisis.” (Tuesday)

I can’t agree with reforming Section 44. It is quite explicit and enforceable as it is. It’s up to the politicians and their parties to tighten their candidates’ scrutineering in order to avoid such embarrassments in future. That said, I agree that Aboriginals deserve a stronger say than they have at the moment. It can only be beneficial if they feel less “left out”.

On Guthrie’s ABC

Peter Evans writes: Re. “ABC restructure not about cutting programs or costs, Guthrie says in major announcement” (Tuesday)

No doubt the devil is in the detail, but these changes look sensible. But change fatigue is real and massive within the ABC, so good luck getting a motivated staff to follow through.

A correction and humble apology

Yesterday, we published a comment from Cara MacNish, which, due to an administrative error on Crikey‘s end, gave the impression, incorrectly, that Cara was criticising the Yes campaign. This is not the case. Cara’s criticism was directed at Malcolm Turnbull and Malcolm Turnbull only. The comment has since been corrected.
