This Sunday, we’re launching For Your Information, a brand new Crikey newsletter from the idiosyncratic mind of Helen Razer. Each week, Helen will dissect a topic of global, local or sometimes no significance. From universal basic income to anti-ageing creams, Helen explains her way of looking at a subject the rest of the world seems to have made up its mind on. For Your Information will be delivered to all current subscribers.
We’re introducing a new product, FYI

OhmiGOSH.
From Insiders to FYI there’ll be no rest on Sundays any more.
Thanks Crikey, for keeping me from cleaning, cycling or mowing on half my gorram weekend.
Looking forward to a Razored Sunday.
Just pleeeez don’t again use that appalling blue backed, device killing format as with grundle’s history series last year.
My assessment to the editors of Crikey (on another mater) but the remarks are relevant.
As to the the new “For Your Information” – well the article on UBI was NOT for *my* information. The ‘official’ definition OUGHT to
have been developed. The article requires a length of something like 2,500 words and a knowledge of Economics and Politics. While the author
and Messrs Rundle and Keane satisfy the latter comprehension of the former is distinctly absent in the article.
Adjectives such as flawed, absurd, immoral or unworkable (see the ‘why it matters’ heading) require a justification
for their application. Further, just why are the “powerfully different persuasions” advocating a UBI ? Thirty five years from now,
after yet another generation of unemployalbes discover themselves unable to find an unskiled job, the “answer” will be rather obvious!
and the “powerfully different” have an eye to this reality.
There is a publication series “xyz for dummies” where xyz is typically, but not exclusively, an IT topic. The series is for the interested
layman and to that extent the name of the series is a misnoma. Yet the inaugural “essay?” on UBI WAS for DUMMIES? I’m more than just a little
annoyed at the utter jettisoning of an otherwise useful opportunity to address a “real” subject.
The ‘column’ by Bernie is on par. in other words : precisely the reason for my not re-subscribing.
