Nine’s night with The Voice (1.322 million nationally) outpointing Seven’s House Rules (1.05 million) and Ten’s Masterchef Australia (792,000). Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention, however, did see a turn on from Masterchef Australia, giving it an average of 879,000 nationally, and meaning it dominated its timeslot, again.
Even though Nine won total people and the main channels, Seven’s 6 to 7pm hour of news and current affairs blitzed Nine’s offerings — an average of 1.72 million for the hour against 1.29 million — a difference of 431,000. On Pay TV, right-wing favourites The Bolt Report (110,000) and Paul Murray Live (102,000) had their best figures for years in a post-election conservative gloat-a-thon.
ABC’s Four Corners averaged 730,000 with its look at the defeat of Tony Abbott in Warringah. That was low for Four Corners, but Q&A’s post-election episode followed and averaged 729,000 nationally with the metro audience of 520,000, causing it to make a rare appearance in the top 10 for news and current affairs programs on the night. Those figures saw the ABC end up third with Ten in fourth, mostly due to the weakness of Masterchef and the higher than normal audience for Q&A.
In regional markets it was Seven’s 6pm News with 699,000, from Seven News/Today Tonight with 576,000, then the 5.30pm bit of The Chase Australia with 432,000, then Home and Away with 395,000 and House Rules with 388,000.

A small correction – the Saturday night share for Ten’s main channel of 3.6% wasn’t the lowest ever, the 3.4% for the Royal Wedding night (May 19) last year was.
