Predictably, it was Nine’s night with the cricket World Cup between Australia and England — 947,000 people watched the sorry Australian innings and by the time it was England’s turn to bat, that had fallen and kept falling — the average audience for the second session was just 258,000. On Foxtel it was a similar story. The very solid ratings — 355,000 people — for the first innings collapsed almost as badly as the Aussies did, with only 101,000 sticking around to watch England’s victory.
So the world cup lans of Nine and Foxtel followed Seven’s Wimbledon hopes — resting on progression for Ash Barty– down the tubes. No big audience for the respective finals. Good while it lasted. Other than that a boring night. Seven’s Front Bar saw its audience dip to 411,000 nationally and 184,000 in Melbourne as its core viewers went to the cricket and endured an Australian flop for their trouble. In regional areas Seven’s 6pm News won with 570,000 from Seven News/Today Tonight with 502,000, The Chase Australia 5.30pm, 393,000, Home and Away, 346,000 and Nine/NBN News 311,000.
