MAFS hit 1.359 million (down from 1.474 million a week earlier), Paramedics followed with 880,000 (down from 927,000 a week ago). This was Nine’s night. Seven’s MKR managed 727,000 (726,000 a week ago).

But all this isn’t the most striking change from Tuesday’s ratings. It was the sudden list, a sharp one in the figures for Nine’s Today — 272,000 nationally, 173,000 in the metros (the lowest for Karl Stefanovic and his new team on the program since January). Sunrise scored 475,000 nationally, with 272,000 in the metros — around its average figures.

Today’s figures have been gently dipping lower in the past couple of weeks but this was a drop that crippled the 2019 Today team. And to make it all the more telling, ABC News Breakfast’s national audience of 272,000 matched that of Today. And its metro audience of 177,000 beat Today’s of 173,000.

Now that could have been a one-off, but if there isn’t a strong rebound above 300,000 nationally and 200,000 in the metros immediately, then we can wonder if the great Nine experiment of returning Karl, plus Ally Langdon, to the hosting seats on Today is a certified failure.
