In an uncharacteristically scathing address yesterday morning, Prime Minister Scott Morrison called the nation’s panic buyers “un-Australian”.
“Stop hoarding. I can’t be more blunt about it. Stop it,” Morrison said. “Stop doing it. It’s ridiculous. It’s un-Australian, and it must stop.”
Panic buyers now join a long, storied list of people and things that Australian politicians have decided are un-Australian, from left-wing activists, to head-butting Tony Abbott.
- “Green criminal” animal rights activists who blocked traffic in the CBD last year — Scott Morrison (again)
- Extinction Rebellion protesters — according to Tasmanian Liberal Senator Eric Abetz in an interview with Ben “Fordo” Fordham
- Lawyers representing refugees trying to settle in Australia — our Peter Dutton
- An investigation of Melbourne’s Catholic schools by the Charities Commission — Bill Shorten
- Boycotting Australia Day — former NSW minister for multiculturalism Ray Williams
- Bill Shorten’s decision not to support the Coalition’s company tax cuts — Finance Minister Matthias Cormann
- Personal attacks on former One Nation senator Rod Culleton — former One Nation senator Rod Culleton
- Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act, which makes people “feel un-Australian because they’ve spoken their minds” — Tony Abbott
- The University of Melbourne allowing gender segregation at Muslim events — Tony Abbott
- A drunk anarchist headbutting Tony Abbott because he “wanted to nut the c**t” — Christopher Pyne
- Unions telling passengers not to book with Qantas while their planes were grounded during an industrial dispute — former tourism minister Martin Ferguson
- Disrespecting women — Malcolm Turnbull
- Anti-capitalist protesters at APEC — John Howard
- Communists and non-British immigrants — prime minister Joseph Lyons, back in the 1930s
- The GST — Bob Hawke
AND, let’s, let’s not forget, a Crime Minister who oversaw a use of taxpayer money to buy an election. He cannot be allowed to sail past that day of reckoning….see you on the other side SmoCo….
“Nicking off to Hawaii with the family while Australia burns – months after ignoring what a troop of fire-chiefs told you was on the near horizon – because you put fossil fuel donor’s interests before the planet’s – and trying to keep that hushed up – because you knew it was wrong”?
This cant clown thinks it’s his God-given right to dictate to other Australians how they should be acting?
No mention of any link between those Australians panic-buying and hoarding, and Scotty’s “Quiet Australians”?
Exactly my thoughts. But I thought also about those who boycott Chinese restaurants and refuse treatment by Asian doctors and other medical staff; all Quiet Australians.
If so many are buying so much food that the supply chain is disrupted then that is the Australian way, the unAustralians are therefore those not doing it.
But clearly if you exclude all on the above list then the only real Australians are Liberal politicians and their pay masters, except we know that they are the most unAustralian of them all.
And, apparently, leaving Newstart recipients and pensioners to live in virtual poverty because they are all bludgers, boozers and drug addicts IS decidedly Australian. Giving $80.0 million to an Angus Taylor family company for some vague supply of future water and $20.0 million to a Littleproud family entity for essentially the same thing – now that’s Australian too. Standing by while Beetrooter Barnyard moved an entire government department to Armidale, despite a review suggesting it was not the best option, thereby uprooting the lives of the department’s employees and their families. Australian? You bet it is.
The LNP maintaining a $1.0 billion slush fund for pork-barrelling before the next election – how Team Australia can you get. Deliberately maintaining policy settings that virtually guarantee that hundreds of thousands of Australians will be priced out of the housing market and then out of the rental market – that’s pretty damn Australian too – or at least it reflects the Australia that people like Howard, Abbott, Turnbull (less so) and Morrison have manufactured to accord with their own perverted social, cultural, religious and political agendas. Of course, “we” as a nation stood by and let them do it because they threw as a few trinkets to encourage us to join their Cult of Quiet Australians.
