I’m A Celebrity finale wins the battle, but not the war

Ten had the most popular show on TV last night, but it still lost out to Nine and Seven.

Ten’s finale of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here was the most popular non-news program last night — with 1.23 million for the winner’s announcement — but viewers didn’t stick around either side of it. The Amazing Race Australia kicks off tonight in its place.

Nine easily won the night, holding viewers with Married at First Sight (MAFS) and 60 Minutes. MAFS kicked off with the usual reunion (1.13 million nationally) and it continues tonight. Tune in for all the triteness of a bunch of look-at-me’s who have learned nothing from COVID.

This week is just a taste from Nine because the Australian Open starts next Monday and everything has a rest for a fortnight.

Seven trailed with the news and the Big Bash League (BBL), which is not a ratings winner these days (764,000 national average). Thursday’s qualifying final is also up in the air because of the WA COVID lockdown which ends on Friday. This is a headache for Seven and will add to the financial pain at Kerry Stokes’ fading network.

Seven has a lot riding on the first offering of Holey Moley tonight. Give it a night or two, but remember it has to hang on to most of its audience after its three eps this week and its return next Sunday.

Meanwhile, Insiders returned to Sunday mornings on the ABC. Its audience (568,000) was solid, but all the election talk wasn’t that compelling. The ABC has Four Corners and Media Watch back for another year from tonight.
