Sparkling Bodega and Chiko rolls for lunch at the Nine Network canteen today after the confected “cheating” scandal saw The Block reach its second 2021 peak audience in a row — 1.38 million national viewers. Cheating claims, it seems, is a common shtick for people or organisations under pressure.
And to add fizz to the faux bubble, Today’s metro ratings equalled those for Sunrise at 263,000 for the first time in months. Nationally Sunrise again won easily as Today just doesn’t rate as well in regional areas.
It was a night to lift Nine to a comfortable win over Seven. Nine News topped Seven in the metros, meaning Nine’s wins on the east coast outweighed Seven’s usual big margins in Adelaide and Perth. Nationally, Seven News still won easily because of big margins in the regions.
Hard Quiz rose to 904,000, though Question Everything sent nearly third of that audience fleeing for the hills — it averaged 623,000. The Bachelor on Ten got 556,000. Does anyone care?
Breakfast saw Sunrise on 465,000 national and 263,000 metro; Today, 361,000 and 263,000; and News Breakfast, 324,000 and 219,000.
Regional top five: Seven News, 654,000; Seven News 6.30, 632,000; Home And Away, 400,000; 7pm ABC News, 392,000; Nine News, 389,000.

was Murdoch’s Sky tv/Fox given a monopoly on cable tv here in Oz? It would have been good to see some competition..
I know at the age of 82 I will be accused of being old and cranky, but I nearly had a coronary when I saw that vile Americanism, Cheaters, appear in a Crikey article. This is Autralia, mate, and we use the term, Cheat, certainly not bloody Cheater. In the school yard in my primary school days, the chant used to be,”Cheats never prosper”, not Cheaters. Please use Aussie check/spell and eliminate all Americanisms from your articles.
You are harking back to a lost era when, at least amongst the erudite or aspirational, words had specific meanings and used carefully.
There is not a paid staffer who can use simple grammar correctly never mind write clear, unambiguous sentences or refrain from using howling malapropisms, horrendous amerikanizms or simply vocabulary so degraded that someone like the sainted Grundle continues to misuse ‘dearth‘, ‘enervate’ and other $5 words in his ten cent pieces to mean their opposites, however often he is corrected.
Unlike the higher primates, modern scribblers do not learn from experience.
Might as well toss another Fowlers‘ onto the fire – at least it will keep us warm as the world implodes.
Surprised Question everything still rating 600,000 plus. Rusted on ABCers and Anderson fans? The concept is a good one, including the intention to introduce new talent, but the talent is so bad, possessing neither knowledge, insight or wit, let alone an original idea, that it’s embarrassing to see Anderson trying to carry them while they burst into laughter at their own “jokes”. It’s not even undergraduate review standard. Needs a better more disciplined producer and a “talent” clean-out.
Honestly, I could do without my daily look at that eastern suburbs tradie, Scott Cam.
