Lachlan Murdoch is suing Crikey’s publisher Private Media, political editor Bernard Keane and Crikey’s editor-in-chief Peter Fray for defamation over an article published in June regarding the role of Fox News in inciting the January 6 Washington insurrection.
Private Media CEO Will Hayward explains the three main elements of our defence in this video. You can read his statement in full here.
With your principles Peter.
One thing that I was wondering, would the fact that Crikey is subscription based have any relevance? That is, it’s generally behind a paywall to anyone except its subscribers, and while I can’t speak for all subscribers, one of the main reasons why I subscribe, is that I already have a low opinion of News Corpse, its owners and many of its more high profile employees. So, I don’t think my opinion (and probably the opinion of many others) has been changed significantly by negative stories.
That is a strong and logical argument, an edit button for my above would be handy, a lot of subscribers must be here mainly because of news corpse and Neoliberalism, I’m not a fan of corporate propaganda control of information outlets. .
Timothy Snyder in one of his recent books makes the claim corporate media world wide can no longer be trusted. Further, he strongly recommends we should be prepared to support all media that attempts to present accurate news and genuinely held opinions. That is why I subscribe to Crikey.
It sounds like it’s worth it , and the new law does need testing.
If however this means that no opinion articles will be allowed concerning the way that mainstream media projects ,endorses and repeats Neoliberal values , and indeed is the scourge that is control of information,…you’ve been out flanked by ..probably Rupert.
As far as the AFL stuff goes , that is what we all live under, well pointed out .
And in response to another aspect of this piece, ..we share the grie and make it work for us .
good grief
